Display your book in London markets and retail outlets
About us:
Our group was started by a few small publishers and authors who were finding it hard to get a fair deal or decent exposure in bookshops. Bit by bit, we created a network of bookstands in major shopping areas, markets, cinema lobbies, cafes and restaurants. Our smaller stands display selections chosen by our editing and publishing teams, but there is enough space on our main bookstands in central London to offer small presses and individual authors a chance to display their books for sale from time to time. For a startup fee, we'll put your book on a stand with classics, popular novels and other unique and original books, which are selected by our quality control team. Each time your book sells we buy another copy from you. Your book could be rubbing shoulders with the latest Stephen King, Wind in the Willows or Shakespearean classic - our range is eclectic! These stands are displayed to customers from around the world - the hundreds of customers passing and browsing our stands are about half local Londoners and about half international tourists. Visitors speaking French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and other languages browse our stands as well as English speakers. These shoppers will be able to pick up and look at your book, and perhaps buy it. You can display your book for a year on one of our bookstands for £500. We don't guarantee sales, we just guarantee that the book will be available to real customers to put their hands on, and buy if they like it. The proceeds of all sales will go straight to you for one year, in the form of further purchases from us each time your book sells, minus any costs. These costs are minimal or zero - read below for examples. If you are onselling our service to your authors, we require that they receive at least 70% of the retail price for each book of theirs that we sell.
To show you how it works: 1) a gardening book was purchased for £7.50 and we purchased a second book to replace it, for £7.50, from the author. There were no costs incurred and we kept no percentage. The previous week we agreed to post a heavy book to Denmark, for a tourist who was visiting London and did not wish to carry the book onto her plane. The book price was £18. We asked for an extra £3 for postage from the lady, but postage turned out to be about £5 at the post office, so we deducted £2 to cover the cost of postage of the book to Denmark, and bought a replacement copy of the book for £16 from the author. If the next copy of the author's book sells for £18 with no postage costs, we will buy the replacement copy from the author for £18. The book stands do not indicate that any of the books are self published - your book will rub shoulders with copies of Shakespeare's classics, King and Grisham novels or similar, as well as children's stories diy, gardening, cooking and self help books. If you fancy your book being on sale to people just send us 2 copies of the book and pay your £500 by credit card using the link below. When you click on it, the address to post your books to us will be shown in the window. As soon as your book is on display, we will send you a short clip or image of your book in its location! We will send such clips or images at various times throughout the year so that you can see what is happening and what your book looks like on our stands. Certain books may not be accepted by our editing and publishing panel. We apologise in advance for any books which aren't accepted - we will of course, refund your card payment in these rare cases minus the cost of return postage, but if you are seeing this page, chances are we have space to fill. Just press the grey bar below to receive emailed instructions on sending two copies of your book, and to pay our fee. This fee guarantees you display on our stands for one year. We will buy another copy of your book from you every time we sell a copy of your book throughout the year, so send your friends and family along to buy copies! However, if your book is popular and if you receive as much money from us in sales as equals your startup fee, we will thereafter buy your books at a discounted rate of 70 percent of the original price. This gives us a profit margin as we mark the book up to full price again on the bookstand - but we dont do this unless you have already recouped your fee in equivalent sales!
***This page was redisplayed on 25th November 2010 to coincide with our expansion onto an extra bookstand in central London. If you act quickly we can get your book here in time for the christmas rush! OTHER POSSIBILITIES: 1) If your book sells well, we may be able to offer you a publishing deal here in the UK, to avoid unnecessary air miles sending your book! 2) From time to time, we seek out small publishing houses and individual authors to fill space on our premium stands. All stands are located in central London, but the premium stands are located in positions of highest turnover. If your book is recommended by our quality control team you'll automatically be sent an offer to opt for these stands as well. 4) Don't be disappointed if your book doesn't sell well. Many fine books make very few sales - the quality of the book is sadly only one of many factors for customers! In addition, many of us are worried about the effect of ebooks and free downloads on the printed word, but so far, we are one bookseller who is surviving! Putting your book for sale with us is also a way to support independent booksellers, and keep variety on the shelves for customers - many of whom are bored with the usual selections from major chains!
